Dr. Girishchandra Varma completed his MS in General Surgery from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India and MCh in Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery from Bombay University, India.  He attained clinical fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery from the University of Alabama Birmingham, USA in 1996 and postgraduate diploma in Cardiovascular Surgery from University Piere & Marie Curie, Paris in 1999.

Dr. Varma has several international publications, articles and scientific presentations to his credit. He is a life member of the Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons and member of several International Cardiovascular Societies. He has an excellent and impressive track record of over 21 years performing varieties of open heart, thoracic and vascular procedures.

Dr. Varma has performed over 5000 Coronary Artery Bypass surgeries independently and assisted over 4500 such cases. He has also performed over 100 redo-open heart surgeries. He has extensive experience in harvesting skelitonised LIMA, RIMA, radial artery and saphenous vein and redo-sternotomy, thoracotomy, haemostasis and closure of chest at regular intervals. He worked as Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon in numerous hospitals of international repute.

Dr. Varma has performed UAE’s first Total Arterial Revascularization – Triple Bypass Surgery using LIMA – Radial ‘Y’, Composite Conduit Procedure. He is the first surgeon to perform Awake Coronary Bypass Surgery on Beating Heart in the U.A.E, and the only Cardiac Surgeon to do an Awake Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery in the Middle East.
